A contemporary looking coffee table is a must for my living room. It need not be a huge one. A simple abstract looking one with a leather finish would look apt, especially if the couch has similar upholstery. I would prefer a surface made of wood rather than glass as I believe glass gets stained easily and could get difficult to maintain. A bean bag generally goes well with any kind of room furniture and usually a brown one would be my choice. Since I personally like the minimalistic look, too many pieces of furniture in the same room is a definite no.
You could play with the arrangement to form a new visual as often as you pleased, while having all your possessions stored away in accessible ease. A coffee table, also in parquet finish teak, placed on a geometric patterned carpet in the center of the room, with the amount of seating you desire around it. A low-backed couch, an ottoman and skillfully placed scatter cushions would be very elegant. Place a couple of tall ferns in interesting pots beside the wall units.
The first step in planning a minimalist living room is defining how you intend to use the room. Is it purely a sitting room to receive guests, or does it double to become the family den and entertainment room? When you know what activities takes place in a room, then you can plan the furniture for the equipment that will be housed in that room.
