Staircase Understairs. Saturday , October 13th , 2018 - 19:26:24 PM
Whether you opt for the majestic appearance of flared, bull nosed D steps or a more simplistic contemporary design involving stainless steel stair parts, your choice of stairway is a reflection of both your personality and taste. A well-designed staircase can also add to the overall value of your home, especially if your staircase brings together its different stylistic themes. The advantage of remodeling or customising your own stairs with staircase parts is that you can design a stairway that will complement your character and say something about you and the rest of your home whilst at the same time staying within your budget.
Play den. How often have your kids complained that they have nowhere to play? Children love hidden nooks and crannies, so converting the cupboard under the stairs can be a great alternative to an outdoor play house - especially in winter. If possible, cut windows and a doorway into the side panels of the staircase. This will allow light in and stop the den feeling claustrophobic. Strips of leftover curtain material stapled to the windows make a nice homely touch. Use a beanbag or some large cushions to create a comfy seating area. Finally, encourage your little ones to personalise their new hideaway with some books, toys and, if there is room, a small desk for drawing or writing.
A Bullnose, D-end or curtail step can be added to the bottom of a staircase. If a continuous handrail is used and it ends with a decorative volute, the staircase will have a curtail step at the bottom that accommodates the volute newel post and spindles that will support the volute. A bullnose step is curved on one or both sides, while the tread of a D-end step passes the newel post on the balustrade which then returns back into the side of the newel post.
